I enjoyed this book. We are inundated with politicians and media telling us to eat this and don’t eat that. Typically saying “you are 2% more likely to get cancer if you do this or that”, conveniently not telling us that the original absolute chance was 0.1 percent, so 2% more only makes it 0.102%.
The book title is saying it is us that are Spoon Fed. The books is educating us to not believe everything we are told, because politicians and media tend to have hidden agendas. Its great to read something from someone very knowledgable on the subject. I shall be buying Tim’s other books, and also this one for my friends.
My conclusions from the book are:-
- There are four categories of foods, try to eat as little as possible from the Ultra Processed category
- I never have taken artificial sweeteners and am definitely not going to start
- The cholestorol thing was disproved in 2015, but the UK is still sticking to its recommendations (how many people is it damaging through prescribing statins, whose only purpose is to line the drug companies pockets with millions – and no doubt cost the NHS millions as well)
- People react totally different to food, even identical twins, so its hard to have guidelines that apply to everyone.
- Vitamin supplements don’t work
- Food miles
- Bottled water – is very expensive on the environment in terms of plastic bottles, carbon produced to transport it, and the amount of water needed for each litre produced, when tap water often tastes better, and has flouride in it as well to protect your teeth.
- Its better to drink a little, a fact covered up by the UK government.
- If you are diabetic, your doctors official advice to eat a low fat diet will shorten your life by years. Disproved! Yet it is still official government advice.
- Your doctor probably doesn’t know much about nutrition if he/she just listens to government guidelines.
- Can you eat bacon? Is fish good for you? Should you eat for two when you are pregnant? Is exercise useful?
I’m not going to answer the last one, you will have to read the book and draw your own conclusions 🙂
I loved this book, I’m going to have to read it again as there are too many facts to remember all in one go.
