Politics

Politics is broken.

The main reason for having politicians in the first place is to improve peoples lives, through making difficult decisions that hopefully benefit the majority in some way, as far as possible.

I think we have totally lost faith in our politicians. In this day and age of easy and massive communication, life at the top can only be a few months or years, and all the politicians energies have to be focussed at getting to the top.

Why can’t they be like a small business? My business exists solely in doing the right thing for customers. The money is a nice consequence of that happening.

While there always will be winners and losers in any political decision, why can’t politicians do the “right” thing based on facts and the needs of the people, not just self interest? They might be doing self interest to keep themselves in a job a bit longer, but doing the right thing will do this. The electorate isn’t stupid. Its politicians that more easily come across as short sighted idiots with the internet if not the electorate remembering every decision they make.

In this day and age, there are things they recommend or support that are actually harmful, but as long as its obscure, and blame can’t be pinned on them, they let it go.

I would really like all politicians to read The Geek Manifesto, and make decisions based on reality and common sense. Its also ok to make a U turn if new information is available. The existing system is outdated I think but so far we don’t have anything better.

I once heard somebody say its not what politicians are saying, its what they don’t talk about that is interesting. This blog tries to uncover some of that.
