Money

Is money the root of all evil? Well it does make the world go round, without it, it would be hard to do anything useful and get an appropriate reward for your efforts.

To me personally, money and time are interchangeable, if I have all of one I don’t have any of the other. The key is finding a work-life balance, which I have managed to find fortunately.

We don’t get taught about money at school. So our attitudes to money tend to sub-consciously follow that of our parents.

Is it right to mortgage ourselves up to the eyeballs through mortgages and loans? To the point that if we have a month without work we would be in serious trouble? Finance is certainly big business to those who lend the money.

The value of money itself is going down. This hardly encourages us to save. For example, in 1969 a rolls royce brand new cost £10,000. A house was around £1,000. Ok. Wages might have been £30 a week for semi skilled labour.

If you can invest money for 10% return, the amount doubles in 7 years. Its also true that if inflation is 10%, then your £1000 in the bank, while still £1000 in 7 years, is actually worth £500 in todays money.

I’m not claiming to be an expert, but this blog contains my thoughts and experiences about money.

If you do one thing, read Rich Dad, Poor Dad (review coming soon), if you can get over the sentences that continually repeat “if you want to be rich”, then it is an eye opening read for sure.
