I’m very disappointed with our politicians. Its always the same, infighting and self interest come before anything and anyone.
Very soon, they are going to have to think about these crucial challenges before its too late for the planet:
- How to stop destruction of the rainforests. This is a major factor in climate change. More people = more carbon dioxide = more trees needed, not less. Its not the oxygen we need from them we need them to consume carbon dioxide. We are consuming rain forests at a massive rate – half have disappeared in the last 20 years. Not only do we need to stop, we need to reverse this.
- How to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining economic growth.
- How to reduce the UK government dependency on tax from petrol and diesel (which is taxed at around 50%) while balancing the books. This is made harder by the fact they have overspent and there is already a massive deficit that is costing millions in interest. They have overspent on the credit card and can’t afford to pay it off just barely afford to pay the interest.
There are many things that need to be done to be able to even start to address the above, like reducing all types of waste and bureaucracy with any large organisation that no doubt is wasting millions and millions. Immigration is going to have be looked at as well – we should have a points system that only accepts immigrants that would be useful to the community, accepting anyone and giving them everything when they haven’t paid into this country, has to stop. There are many things like this but I want to stay focussed on the three key points above, so I’ll stop there.
They come out with rules like 22% of new cars must be electric next year (2024) but electric cars will prove to be a very costly failure.
I predict that even if we do go partially electric, the amount of carbon produced overall will continue to escalate.
Lets fast forward ten years –
- We have saved 10% overall by our adoption of EV’s (I don’t think it will happen but lets pretend it does).
- The number of power stations needed building them has produced a lot of carbon, and the carbon still produced (because we can’t have everything wind and and nuclear power) is massive to serve the needs of all the electric vehicles and also power datacentres for things like Bitcoin and AI software like ChatGPT both of which use a lot of energy.
So overall we won’t be any better off. Net Zero is a unattainable myth right now, not matter how many times politicians might say it. They need to get their fingers out before its too late.
