Call to cut UK subsidies as Drax power station profits nearly double

One of the UK’s biggest power stations, Drax has been converted to burn wood pellets that are produced by cutting down trees in Canada, and shipping these across the world in a ship.

This is VERY un-environmentally friendly, just so our politicians can say they don’t burn coal, which although very dirty, was at least under our feet. How much carbon is produced overall by this process, plus the loss of the trees that the world really can’t afford???

Anyway, the government has given a 500m subsidy to drax, allowing them to make a 700m + profit that no doubt will be distributed to shareholders. Why not give the taxpayer the 500m back first? This makes my blood boil and is yet another way politicians just throw away money, because they are too dumb to think of or do anything else.
