The conservatives are for the really rich, labour are for the very poor and for scroungers, we need a party for the majority of people who don’t fall into these two camps. I hope somebody comes up with something soon because both sides are fairly weak right now and we need a strong government that can make good decisions in the coming years.
This is a list of the big challenges I think politicians face in no particular order:-
- Climate change. Not much sense is being talked at the moment, only unachievable scratches at the surface.
- Stopping the destruction of rain forests. Planting many many more trees. This is the underlying cause of the crisis.
- Reducing CO2 emissions in an affordable way (electric cars and heat pumps… not fit for purpose and way way, way too expensive).
- Politics currently works by funds and lobbying from other powerful, rich groups, such as the car industry. Cars are way too powerful now, and the way they are sold is an arms race – feeding on mans natural want to keep up with the Jones. These powerful fuel guzzling, heavy vehicles, being used at an efficient 10% of their capacity are eating up the planet. This needs reversing and the roads will be safer as a result. This is a very big challenge. We need cars that do over 100mpg – better than a Tesla does – not over 100mph, and which it is difficult to speed in 30 limits because they just aren’t powerful enough to accelerate that hard.
- Electric cars – not fit for purpose too expensive – hybrids – heavy – heavy on fuel. Need an alternative to what is on offer today.
- Reducing the need to travel quite so much, while still getting tax income – they get a massive amount of tax income from petrol and diesel which is why historically the roads have been championed over rail for example, which have unions and just cost money, even though as a form of transport, if there were enough stations/railways it would be superior. I think reducing travel / becoming more efficient with what we have now is the only viable way forward that anybody has come up with ignoring of course people with agendas, like politicians with friends or shares in the car industry.
- If we are going more electric, having a decent power generation policy, which has to be in this country for UK consumers, not giving Drax half a billion in subsidies to chop down trees and ship it across the world to burn. Where is the sense in that?
- Tackling crime – how do they know how much crime is out there if its impossible to report easily? They will be missing loads.
- Do something about the scores of uninsured drivers on the road on electric scooters and motorbikes. It might be to legalise them like Spain has. Allow on cycle ways and roads and encourage sensible riding.
- Do something about speeding. Extra cameras are not the answer!
- NHS Waiting Lists. I don’t have an answer for this one, but we are far worse than other countries.
- Balance of payments, we don’t manufacturer much any more. Yet buy lots of things from abroad.
- Migration. I voted Brexit and stick by it because I didn’t want European politicians that I hadn’t elected on a power trip making Europe wide rules that affected me, when they likely hadn’t been to this country. We shouldn’t be the dustbin of Europe, there needs to be a points system for immigrants, so they add value to the country rather than take. The amount of money being spent on hotels etc etc etc is scandalous. Also you go to places like Bedford or Blackburn and there is hardly an English person around. Different cultures don’t always mix and if you don’t allow the reporting of crime, you don’t really have any idea of what is going on do you?
