Coming back from Manchester airport at 9pm last night, after a 3 hour flight, it took 2 hours to get home. Why? There were three separate motorway closures in thirty miles, all either closing the motorway fully or bringing it down to one lane, resulting in queues more than a mile long with the usual chaos of people wanting to get to the front, push in etc etc.

No workers were anywhere to be seen.

This is so bad from a time and pollution perspective. Why not close two lanes of the motorway one night the other two the next night? The traffic was too heavy to filter down to one lane.

Sometimes I just hate the stupidity that allows this to happen.
