As I have blogged in another post, https://www.foodforthinkingblog.com/2016/04/06/europe-central-control-right-wrong/, I think that I personally am on the side of the UK coming out of Europe. Why?
- We cannot be controlled from the centre, even the USA doesn’t attempt to do that (as far as possible) and americans are much less diverse than say a Estonia and a French person.
- The UK cannot give benefits to all the people in the world who are poorer than us. There are simply too many of them and the UK is struggling to make ends meet as well. If we have to come out to stop immigration, then we should. Immigration should be on a points system like other countries such as Australia, the USA and Canada, so we attract people who can give to our economy, not take from it.
- On a personal level, you would not give your bank details, keys to house and cars and control of your family affairs to the immigrants on the next street, and then give a good amount of cash to them, receiving only half of it back when they felt like it, having to negotiate with them for everything you wanted to do. At the same time they made hundreds of rules that you and your family had to follow, some of which are very difficult to follow and make you worse off just spending the time trying to follow the rules you can follow. So why do the politicians not want to do what we vote for them to do and take control and actually do things that are good for us for once? More local control both giving the UK national government control back, and more control for the regions, has to be the sensible way forward.
- We don’t get business from Europe because the politicians are in bed with each other. I would bet that the opposite is true. Our businesses win business for other reasons, such as quality of product, price, and service. This will continue after June 2016 no matter what the vote is.
- I think David Cameron is playing a very dangerous game. The government got into power against all odds, by offering a referendum on Europe. They should be impartial and present both sides, not try to convince us to stay at all costs. There are many reasons to leave as well as reasons to stay. I personally think David Cameron will be hit for this, for sure Jeremy Corbyn is probably not electable, but it only takes a new labour leader and the conservatives could easily lose the next election over this.
Anyway, time will tell. I don’t like listening to the news every night because most of it is disinformation, but the time of reckoning will come soon…
